SUSTAINABILITY FILM SERIES
Join us for this year's Sustainability Films Series, a free,
virtual film series featuring four films covering topics
such as plastic pollution, climate change, water
conservation, and youth activism. After each
screening, there will be a post -film discussion
featuring a local expert on the topic of the film.
• December 16 -Youth Unstoppable
• January 20 -The Great Divide
• February 17-'2040'
Visit LouisvilleCO.gov/SustainabilityFilms to secure
your attendance. The screenings are virtual, but due to
licensing, space is limited for each film.
WATER TEAM WINS SUSTAINABILITY AWARD
The City's Water Plant Team were named "Gold
Leaders, the highest level for the Environmental
Leader Program through the Colorado Department of
Public Health and Environment. This is a major
milestone as many hours were dedicated to meeting
the strict requirements of this achievement. The Water
Plant Team, which was previously a Silver Partner, joins
fellow Gold Leaders: Anheuser-Busch, Ball Aerospace,
Frito Lay, IBM, Xcel Energy and many more.
The Environmental Leadership Program (ELP) is a
statewide program that recognizes and awards
organizations in Colorado that go beyond
compliance with environmental regulations by
advancing sustainability in Colorado.
BUILDING PERMITS FOR BOILER & FURNACE
Remember building permits are needed for hot water
heater, boiler, A/C and furnace replacements. The
Louisville Department of Building and Safety
undertakes inspections to make sure these units are
installed correctly, efficiencies are there, and health
safety is addressed in the install to ensure you and
your family does not get carbon monoxide poisoning
and the system you paid for is what was installed. Visit
LouisvilleCO.gov/CSS to apply for permits and
inspections online. As
you deck the halls this season, be fire smart:
Inspect holiday lights each year before you put
them up. Throw away light strands with frayed or
pinched wires. You can also take old lights to the
Center of Hard to Recycle Materials (see page 4).
• Water your Christmas tree every day. A dry tree
is dangerous because it can catch on fire easily.
Make sure your tree is at least 3 feet away from
heat sources like fireplaces, radiators, space heat-
ers, candles or heat vents. Also, make sure your tree
does not block exits.
Consider using battery -operated flameless candles,
which can look, smell and feel like real candles.
If you do use lit candles, make sure they are in
stable holders and place them where they cannot
be knocked down easily. Christmas is the peak day
for candle fires.
Visit www.usfa.fema.gov for more information and free
fire -safety resources.
Don't forget!
Disposable
Bag Tax
In Effect January 1, 2022
LouisvilleCO.gov/BagTax
Page 10 • Winter 2021-22
