To help
keep our city at the top of that list, here are a few
summer safety tips from the Louisville
Police Department:
Home Safety Tips
• Keep your doors and windows closed and locked
when you are not at home.
Make a record of the serials numbers of all your
valuables (cell phone, lawn mower, etc.) and
register your bike with the Police Department.
• Never leave your garage door open, unless you are
in within eyesight.
Vacation Planning
Arrange to have mail and newspaper delivery put
on hold.
• Inform a trusted neighbor of when you will be
gone.
• Set inside lights on timers.
• If gone for more than a week, arrange for your
lawn to be cared for.
Auto Safety Tips
• Do not leave valuables in your vehicle. If you must
leave valuables in the vehicle, lock them in the
trunk.
Always lock your vehicle doors and verify they
are locked.
Do not leave your vehicle windows partially open
for ventilation.
• Never leave your keys/key FOB in your vehicle.
• Never leave a running vehicle unattended.
Parent Safety Tips
Require your child to inform a parent/guardian
when they are leaving the house and when they
will be returning.
• Teach children to never give out personal
information on the internet.
• Know the route your child will take to and from
their destination.
Provide a list of phone numbers for your child in
case of an emergency (neighbors, family,
or friends).
Summer 2021 • Page 5
