it
-MIFIA
SUMMER TAKE & MAKES
The Museum, with the generous financial support of
the Louisville History Foundation, is sponsoring free
Take & Make craft kits each month at the Louisville
Public Library. The kits will include the specific craft's
supplies and fun history facts! Follow the Museum's
Instagram @louisvillemuseum for details.
PIONEER AWARD RECIPIENT, KEITH HELART
Congratulations to Keith Helart, who was selected to
receive the 2020 Louisville Pioneer Award! The
Louisville Historical Commission annually recognizes
one person or persons for their service to the
community with the Pioneer Award. The Commission
was happy to have the opportunity to belatedly give
Keith his 2020 award! Keith has had a huge impact on
parks and recreation spaces in Louisville. As the Chair
of the Parks & Recreation Board in the 1970s, he was
instrumental in the development of Memory Square
Pool and the restoration of the exterior of the
Louisville Arts Center. His years of service and
involvement made Louisville a better place for
recreation. Join the Museum and the Historical
Commission as we thank and celebrate Keith.
A full report on Keith and his accomplishments will be
available on the Museum website.
MUSEUM REOPENS FOR DROP -IN VISITS
After over a year of exploring history with the
community in other ways, the Museum reopened to
visitors in May. All are welcome to explore the
Museum's three historic buildings and get to know the
history of our city. Due to the re -opening, the Museum
will be phasing out tours by appointment. Groups and
schools may still request tours by appointment using
the Museum's group tour form. For the latest health &
safety guidelines, visit the Museum website
LouisvilleCO.gov/Museum.
TAKE PART IN PUBLIC ART
What would the rain say to help us be kinder to each
other and the earth? How can we create a warmer
community and a cooler world? Local poet Erin
Robertson and scientists Dani Coleman and Mark
Dornblaser are working with community groups to
create messages around sustainability and inclusion
that will appear on sidewalks around town using the
Rainworks method (visit rain.works). Search Official
Rainworks Map, take a walk or bike ride after one of
our afternoon thunderstorms, then visit lovetherain.
org to respond. This project is funded by the Louisville
Cultural Council and Art + Science Partnerships for
Catalyzing Community Action. If you or your group
might like to participate, email erin@wildwriters.org.
Join the Library's Summer
Reading Program
Tails and Tales!
This year's program is filled with
reading, fun activities, and
opportunities to win great prizes.
The program is open to Children,
Teens, and Adults!
LouisvilleCO.gov/SurnmerReading
Summer 2021 • Page 7
