-IA OPEN SPACE EVENTS: JUNE-JULY Pulling for Louisville: Volunteer Weed Pull (All ages) Wednesday, June 30 from 6:30 PM-7:30 PM Hecla Lake Open Space (meet at eastern entrance off of Lakespur Ln.) The Open Space Division is working hard to remove weeds on Hecla Lake Open Space and we need your help! Learn why noxious weed management is important from 6:30 to 6:40 PM. Then help clip seed heads and dig up noxious weeds. Please bring gloves and hand clippers (if you have them) and be prepared for the elements. NO open -toed shoes. Pulling for Louisville: Volunteer Weed Pull (All ages) FREE Native Plants to Participants! Saturday, July 10 from 8 AM-10 AM Davidson Mesa Open Space (meet at parking lot off of McCaslin Blvd.) We need your help pulling weeds on Davidson Mesa Open Space! Learn why noxious weed management is important during weed identification training from 8-8:30 AM. Then help clip seed heads and dig up noxious weeds. FREE native plants, refreshments and snacks will be provided. Please bring gloves and hand clippers (if you have them) and be prepared for the elements. NO open -toed shoes. Catfishing Night (All ages) Saturday, July 10 from 8:30 PM-9:30 PM Harper Lake Open Space (meet at trailhead off of Washington Ave.) Normally, all Open Space areas close at sunset, but we're making a special exception! Join City of Louisville staff for a nighttime catfishing event. All individuals age 16 or older must be prepared to present a valid Colorado fishing license. Noxious Weed ID Booth (All ages) Thursday, July 15 from 10 AM-12 PM Hecla Lake Open Space (meet at eastern entrance off of Lakespur Ln.) Stop by our booth at Hecla Lake Open Space and chat with the Open Space Specialist for information and view samples of some of the noxious weeds present on Open Space. Registration not required. OPEN SPACE EVENTS: JULY-AUGUST Fishing Derby (All ages) Saturday, July 24 from 10 AM-1 PM Harper Lake Open Space (meet near kiosk at parking lot off of Washington Ave.) Stop by Harper Lake Open Space for a fun Fishing Derby with Colorado Parks and Wildlife and Open Space staff! Participants will learn how to tie fishing knots, handle fish, and how to cast. Fishing poles will be provided. Pulling for Louisville: Volunteer Weed Pull (All ages) Wednesday, July 28 from 6:30 PM-7:30 PM Aquarius Open Space (meet at trailhead off of HWY 42) The Open Space Division is working hard to remove weeds on Aquarius Open Space and we need your help! Come and learn why noxious weed management is important from 6:30-6:40 PM and then we will be clipping and bagging seed -heads of noxious weeds on the property. Please bring gloves and hand clippers (if you have them) and be prepared for the elements. NO open -toed shoes. Learn why noxious weed management is important from 8:00 to 8:15 AM. Then help clip seed heads and dig up noxious weeds. Please bring gloves and hand clippers (if you have them) and be prepared for the elements. NO open -toed shoes. Dark Sky Monitoring (All ages) Saturday, August 7 from 9:30 PM-10:30 PM Davidson Mesa Open Space (meet at trailhead off of McCaslin Blvd.) Did you know that true darkness is an endangered resource? Join a Ranger Naturalist for a nighttime hike and an easy science project to measure the impact of Louisville's Open Spaces in preserving our dark skies.
