City,/
Louisville
Parks & Recreation
To: Recreation Advisory Board
From: Paul Borth/ Aquatics Supervisor
Date: 03/17/2025
Subject: Pool Amenity Update
Memorandum
Purpose:
The purpose of this memorandum is to provide an update regarding the planned Pool
Amenity Update. This update will focus on the Splash Pool zero depth area, specifically
targeting children under 48" in height that need to be supervised by adults. This update is
for the board to review and offer any questions and/or suggestions to support staff in the
recommendation of pool amenity feature selection.
Background:
The City of Louisville Aquatics area has consistently prioritized the enhancement of pool
amenities to provide engaging and safe recreational opportunities for patrons of all ages.
As part of the Capital Improvement Plan (C.I.P.), the City Staff developed a structured
multi -year upgrade plan aimed at keeping the pool area attractive and relevant for all
ages. This strategy has incorporated efforts to have a balanced timeline for the pool area
for all age groups and abilities.
In previous years, amenities such as the Zip Line, Inflatable, and Log were prioritized
based on patron polling, with over 300 participants selecting their preferences. Originally,
the recommended timeline placed the purchase the Zip Line in 2022, and the Inflatable in
2023. For the upcoming update, we are excited to announce new enhancements tailored
to younger children, ensuring a safer and more engaging aquatic experience. The
following features will be added:
1. New Safer Slide: A redesigned slide with improved safety measures to
accommodate younger children while increasing visibility, maintaining fun and
accessibility.
2. Updated Tactile Play Structure: A multi -sensory play area that encourages
hands-on interaction, fine motor skill development, and inclusive play
opportunities.
3. Updated Splash/Spray Features: A dynamic water play element designed to
offer interactive and refreshing entertainment for young swimmers.
Next Steps
Staff is requesting the Board's support in moving forward with the updated amenity
purchase. With safety as the cornerstone and due to line -of -sight limitations, space
constraints, and the goal of minimizing pool structure modifications, it is our
recommendation to limit product to Vortex Pool International. We welcome any
questions or suggestions from the Board to further refine and enhance the p1an.Thank you
for your ongoing support in making the Louisville Aquatics area a premier destination for
families and children of all ages.
