City Council <br />Study Session Summary <br />February 25, 2025 <br />Page 2 of 2 <br />Councilmembers asked questions about the presentation and the work of the <br />department. <br />Cybersecurity In Louisville — Protecting Our City <br />Director Bennett reviewed the cybersecurity efforts of the IT department. She reviewed <br />items such as network security, device management, policies, and training. She noted <br />incident response and training are critical. She discussed why cybersecurity is important <br />to the functioning of the City. <br />She reviewed information about the prevalence of cyber attacks across the country. She <br />noted phishing attacks are still the biggest threat to the systems. She reminded <br />everyone that the end users are generally the biggest security risk by falling for phishing <br />schemes. <br />Bennett noted the statistics of how often bad actors attempt to access the City's system; <br />this includes thousands of fake emails and hits to servers trying to access the system. <br />She reviewed some of the security protocols and partners the City uses. She noted <br />some of the work the department has done in the last 18 months to increase security <br />and some of the plans they have for upgrades in the next year. <br />Councilmembers asked questions about the presentation and the work of the <br />department. <br />Adjourned at 8:35. <br />
