Parks and Public Landscaping Advisory Board
Minutes
May 7, 2025
Timing of future construction in the northern part of the McCaslin/ Via Apia
intersection where hillside is sliding onto city property and sidewalk where
structural issues need repair may delay part of the restoration of the
Cornerstone planting. City will replant as access becomes available, but
completion date is indefinite.
Signe commented that Staghorn sumac could be invasive.
Staff commented that serviceberries, cotoneaster, and mock orange
shrubs are considered native, Miss Kim lilac survived the fire, seems OK
to move ahead with current plan.
Staff noted that any requested changes will delay project completion.
Comments from Lisa Hughes, resident of cornerstone. No HOA in that
development. Expressed Thanks for efforts to replant, and happy to see
progress. Please refer to Public comments received by Parks
Department. Currently provided bed sketches hard to locate in the planting
area. Reference to a photograph would be nice!
Residents are wondering how City will be working with east side trees that
have survived the fire? How will those be accommodated? Concerned
that data for Native plants reference eastern seaboard and are not
appropriate for Colorado. Cornerstone community has worked hard to
receive a Fire Wise community designation, and does not want to risk
losing that designation. Community members suggest that the CSU plant
list and CSU Fire-resistant data is the best to use.
Cornerstone does not want pinion pines replaced at the corner of Via
Apia. These were taken out, so no problem!
Cornerstone community is grateful for City's design work on the rest of the
perimeter.
Staff noted that planting is intended to begin in the next 2 months.
Judi: Will any design changes be implemented this year?
Staff: Yes.
Judi continued: Cornerstone has no community park, the entry areas are
the only places to gather to talk and serve as a school bus stop. Judi
would prefer Bermuda grass and suggests keeping pollinator plants away
City of Louisville
Parks Division 749 Main Street Louisville CO 80027
303.335.4774 (phone) www.LouisvilleCO.gov
5
