Staff will provide an overview <br />of the background and work plans, an update on the 2025 Council Work Plan, a timeline <br />for the 2026 work plan process, and open a discussion about 2026 Council Work Plan <br />priorities and lenses. The goal of the meeting is for council to set 3-5 priorities that can be <br />utilized to further develop the 2026 Council Work Plan and throughout the 2026 <br />Supplemental Budget. <br />BACKGROUND / PRIOR DISCUSSIONS: <br />While this is the first 2026 Council Work Plan Discussions, discussions in the last year <br />include <br />June 11, 2024 — Initial 2025 Council Work Plan Discussion, introducing new format <br />July 23, 2024 — 2025 Council Work Plan Discussion, setting priorities <br />December 17, 2024 — 2024 City Council Work Plan Wrap Up <br />January 14, 2025 — Draft 2025 Council Work Plan Review and Discussion <br />January 21, 2025 — Adoption of the 2025 Council Work Plan <br />ANALYSIS: <br />City Council Work Plan Overview <br />The City Council establishes their work plan annually. The annual work plan reflects <br />Council's priorities and includes only those items that require City Council involvement <br />such as policy direction, guidance, or approval. The Council Work Plan also helps staff <br />prioritize internal work plans and schedule the work that is needed to bring to City Council <br />for engagement. <br />The process has evolved in recent years with a transition to setting priorities before <br />budgeting in 2024 and a re -vamp of the Council Work Plan format in 2025. For the 2025 <br />cycle, Council reviewed the resident survey, took into account the current fiscal <br />environment, and other resources to determine four priorities (Economic Vitality • Core <br />Services • Safety • Housing) and two lenses (Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion • <br />Environmental Sustainability).
