retained ownership of the house for the next 27 years. It appears the Ashes rented the property from
the 1910s-1930s until Mary's death in 1934, leaving the house to her sons. In 1936, her children
transferred ownership to their father, Thomas Ashe until he sold the property to Victor and Mary Petrelli
in 1938. Obituary notices note that Mary Ashe was active in the Methodist Church, Eastern Star, and
Women's Christian Temperence Union, but it does not appear that she ever lived in Louisville again after
1911.
Petrelli Family Ownership, 1938-1982
Victor Petrelli and Mary Fallone Petrelli purchased 1016 Main in 1938. Victor Petrelli (1881-978) was
born in Italy and came to the US in 1910. Mary Fallone (1898-1948), also of Italian descent, was born in
New Jersey. She married Victor in 1915 when she was 17 years old. It appears that Victor and Mary
either met in Italy or returned to Italy for their wedding and lived there for the first few years of their
marriage. Their eldest two sons, Eugene (1915-1995) and Emelio (1919-1965) were born in Italy. By
1920, the Petrellis had returned to the US and were living in Wyoming where Victor worked at a garage
and their third son, Alfred (1922-1993) was born. They moved to Louisville in 1929 where Victor and his
oldest son, Eugene, found work at the Louisville Lafayette Coal Company. Mary and Victor's two younger
sons, Alfred and Joseph (1932-2002) would have grown up at 1016 Main and attended Louisville schools.
1947 Louisville Boys Baseball team at Miners Field.
Joe Petrelli is the first boy from the left in the back row.
During World War II, Victor worked as a loader at the Centennial Mine and their son Emelio joined the
Army. In 1943, Emelio Petrelli was awarded the Soldier's Medal for clearing mine fields in Guadalcanal.
Mary Petrelli died in 1948. Victor continued to live at 1016 Main and advertisements in the Louisville
Times over the next decade show that he engaged in numerous enterprises including selling fryer rabbits
