Joe Potestio is in the front row, fifth from the left. <br />In 1917, the Potestio family sold the house to Mary Mitchell and left Louisville to run a general <br />store in Firestone. Joseph died in the influenza epidemic in 1919, leaving Josephine a widow <br />with three children. Josephine returned with her children to Italy a few years later. <br />Mary Mitchell, Katie Porta, and Laura Mossoni Ownership, 1917-1923 <br />The next three owners were all women who may have used 708 Grant as a rental property for <br />additional income. Mary Smith Mitchell (1859-1939) immigrated from England in 1872 at the <br />age of 13 and married Thomas Mitchell in 1879. They were recorded as living in Louisville in the <br />1880 census. Thomas Mitchell (1856-1915) worked as a coal miner and passed away in 1915. <br />Mary Mitchell purchased the house from the Potestio's in 1917 for $600 and while she is not <br />listed as living at this address, her daughter Ethel Lawrence is shown as renting at this address <br />in the 1920 census. <br />Next, Mary Mitchell sold the house to Katie Mossoni Porta (1897-1954) in 1921 who in turn sold <br />it Lena Burtolamea Mossoni in 1922 for $1.00. Lena Mossoni (1862-1937) was Katie Porta's <br />mother. Katie Mossoni immigrated from Italy as a child in 1907 and was living in Louisville by <br />1910. She married John L.
