immigrated with her parents, Pasqua) and Madelina James, and siblings to the U.S. in 1886 and was
living in Louisville by 1900. It is possible that Annetta was related to members of the DiGiacomo family
already in Louisville. Her last name, James, is an Americanized form of DiGiacomo. It appears that
Domenico Rotolo formed business partnerships with members of the DiGiacomo family. Articles in the
Louisville Times from 1905 and 1906 report Rotolo, along with Robert DiGiacomo and Pascal DiGiacomo
opened a coal mine called the Independent Mine.
The now nine owned by"l liµrt Di
Giactmmo's and D. They are now carrying coal
with warrona.
Lafayette Leader, January 11, 1906
In 1908, Rotolo purchased a significant portion of the Nicola DiGiacomo subdivision and between 1908
and 1919, he sold twelve lots for development. In the 1910 census, the Rotolos are noted as living on
Jefferson in an unnumbered house with their two children, Lucy (1900-1955) and Fredie (1904-1929). It
is unclear whether they were living at a house already built and shown on the 1909 Drumm's Wall Map
on the northeast corner of Jefferson on lots 47 & 48 or if the Rotolos had built a new home on lots 45 &
46 in 1910. Boulder County records note the year of development for 1234 Jefferson as 1910. This date
appears on the current Boulder County website and on the 1950 County Assessor card for this address.
The Drumm's Map of Louisville does not show a building on lots 45 and 46 in 1909. Based on census
data, and address histories for neighboring houses, 1910 appears to be the earliest estimated date of
construction.
The 1910 census lists Domenico Rotolo's occupation as "real estate agent" and he is also associated with
development of properties in Welby. In 1914, Rotolo sold lots 45 & 46 to Angelo Massoni and it appears
that the Rotolo family soon moved from Louisville, later appearing in directories for Welby and Denver.
