<br />B. Arboricultural practices. The American National Standards Institute <br />documents, A300 (Part 1-2001) Pruning, A300 (Part 2-1998) Fertilization, A300 <br />(Part 3-2000) Support Systems, A300 (Part 4 -2002) Lightning Protection, and <br />Z133.1-2000 Safety Requirements, published by the American National Standards <br />Institute, 11 West 42nd Street, New York, New York 10036, are hereby adopted <br />by reference thereto and incorporated into and made a part of this code. The <br />purpose and subject matter of these standards include regulating tree care and safe <br />working practices through comprehensive provisions and standards regulating <br />pruning, removal, spraying, injecting, preservation, planting and maintenance of <br />trees and providing greater safety to the public by standardizing arboriculture. <br />Except as otherwise provided in this chapter, these standards are adopted in full, <br />including the outline of contents, index, and appendices contained therein. Any <br />reference to these standards within this chapter shall be to the most recent edition <br />of these standards. The city forester shall maintain a set of the current ANSI <br />standards which shall be available for review at the offices of the city clerk and <br />the department of land management. <br />C. Protection of trees near construction sites. The city forester shall maintain a <br />set of guidelines for preserving and protecting trees that may be damaged during <br />the development of any public and private lands. These guidelines shall be <br />available for review at the offices of the department ofland management. <br />Sec. 8.12.180. Protection of city trees. <br />A. Severe Pruning. No arborist shall cause the severe pruning of any tree. <br />Nothing herein shall prevent the removal of dead or infected trees in accordance <br />with the direction of the city forester. <br />B. Damage to Trees. It shall be unlawful for any person to abuse, destroy, or <br />mutilate any street tree or park tree or to attach or place any rope, wire (other than <br />one used to support a young or broken tree), sign, poster, handbill, or other items <br />to or on any street tree or park tree, or to cause or permit any wire charged with <br />electricity to be placed or attached to any such tree, or allow any gaseous, liquid, <br />or solid substance which is harmful to such trees to come in contact with their <br />roots, trunks, or leaves. <br />Sec. 8.12.190. Cooperation between city departments and outside entities. <br />The City of Louisville public works department shall notify the city forester of <br />any and all improvements, including, but not limited to, new street or gutter <br />installation, sidewalk repair, street reconstruction, and driveway repair which <br />might require removal or cause injury to any tree within the construction zone. <br />Public utilities maintaining overhead wires or underground pipes or conduit shall <br />obtain written permission from the city forester before performing any <br />construction or maintenance work that may cause injury to trees.
