<br /> Section 22. Chapter 17.24 of the Louisville Municipal <br /> Code shall be repealed. <br /> Section 23. The following Chapter shall be added to Title <br /> 17 of the Louisville Municipal Code: <br /> 17.24 Signs <br /> 17.24.010 Purpose <br /> The intent of this section shall be to define the types of <br /> signs which will be permitted in the various zoning districts and <br /> those which will be prohibited, the manner in which sign areas and <br /> dimensions will be measured, and exempting certain types of signs <br /> from this Ordinance. It is further the intent of this section to <br /> encourage the erection of signs which are attractive and compatible <br /> with the adjacent property which will preserve and enhance property <br /> values within the community, which will provide for the public <br /> convenience, health and welfare, and which will protect the public <br /> safety. <br /> 17.24.020 Definitions <br /> l. Accessory: Subordinate or incidental to, and on the <br /> same lot or on a contiguous lot in the same ownership and zone as the <br /> building or use being identified or advertised. <br /> 2. Architectural 2rojection: Any ?rojection which is not <br /> intended for occupancy and which extends beyond the face of an exterior <br /> wall of a building, including arcades, roof overhangs, mansards, <br /> unenclosed exterior balconies, marquees, canopies, pila$ters, fascias, <br /> and the like, but not including signs. <br /> 3. Awning: A movable shelter supported entirely from the <br /> exterior wall of a building and of a type which can be tetracted, <br /> folded or collasped against the face of the supporting building. <br /> 4. Display Face: See "Sign Face". <br /> 5. Electric Sign: Any sign containing electrical wiring, <br /> but not including signs illunlinated by exterior light sources, such as <br /> floodlights. <br /> 6. Fabric ~ign: Fabric sign shall include any sign, banner, <br /> pennant, valance--or-a vertising display constructed of cloth, canvas, <br /> fabric, or other light material, with or without frames, which is not <br /> permanently fixed to a supporting structure. <br /> 7. Frontage, Building: The horizontal, linear dimension of <br /> that side of a building which abuts a street, a parking area, a mall, or <br /> other circulation area open to the general public; and having either <br /> a main window display of the enterprise or a public entrance to the <br /> building. (In Industrial Districts a building side with an entrance <br /> open to industrial employees shall also qualify as a building frontage.) <br /> TNhere more than one use occupies a building, each such use having a <br /> public entrance or main window dis;?lay for its exclusive use shall be <br /> considered to have its own building frontage, which shall be the front <br /> width of the portion of the building occu?ied by that use. <br /> --7- <br />
