ORDINANCE NO. 717 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING TITLE 2 OF THE LOUISVILLE MUNICIPAL CODE DEALING WITH ELECTIONS BY ENLARGING THE TERMS OF OFFICE FOR OFFICERS OF THE CITY TO FOUR YEARS AND PROVIDING FOR STAGGERED TERMS FOR THE MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL. WEE REAS , under the statutes of the State of Colorado, 1973 ~.~.g. , 31-4-107, as amended, a municipality is authorized to provide for four years overlapping terms for Councilmen and other elected officers; and, WHEREAS, the City Council desires to establish four year overlapping terms for Councilmen and other elected officers. NOW, THEREFORE , BE rr ORDAINED BY 'I'HE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LOUISVILLE, COLORADO: Section 1. Section :2.40.010 of the Louisville Municipal Code is hereby repealed. Section 2. The following section is hereby added to Title 2 of the Louisville Municipal Code: 2.40.010 Elective offices designated - Election - Term A. The qualified electors shall elect, at the November 3, 1981, regular municipal election, and every four years thereafter, a mayor, a city clerk, and a city treasurer from the city at large. Such officers shall hold their respective offices for a term of four years, commencing on the first Monday after the first Tuesday in January following their election. B. The qualified electors of each of the several wards of the city shall elect, at the November 3, 1981, regular municipal election, two city council members from each of the several wards. The council member in each ward receiving the highest number of votes shall hold office for a term of four years; the council member in each ward receiving the second highest number of votes shall hold office for a term of two years with each term commencing on the first Monday after the first Tuesday in January following their election. C. Thereafter, at the next subsequent regular election and at each regular election thereafter, the qualified electors of each ward shall elect one city council merooer from each of the wards.
