<br /> ORDINANCE NO. 717 <br /> AN ORDINANCE AMENDING TITLE 2 OF THE <br /> LOUISVILLE MUNICIPAL CODE DEALING WITH <br /> ELECTIONS BY ENLARGING THE TERMS OF <br /> OFFICE FOR OFFICERS OF THE CITY TO FOUR <br /> YEARS AND PROVIDING FOR STAGGERED TERMS <br /> FOR THE MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL. <br /> WEE REAS , under the statutes of the State of Colorado, <br /> 1973 ~.~.g. , 31-4-107, as amended, a municipality is authorized to <br /> provide for four years overlapping terms for Councilmen and other <br /> elected officers; and, <br /> WHEREAS, the City Council desires to establish four year <br /> overlapping terms for Councilmen and other elected officers. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE , BE rr ORDAINED BY 'I'HE CITY COUNCIL OF <br /> THE CITY OF LOUISVILLE, COLORADO: <br /> Section 1. Section :2.40.010 of the Louisville Municipal <br /> Code is hereby repealed. <br /> Section 2. The following section is hereby added to Title <br /> 2 of the Louisville Municipal Code: <br /> 2.40.010 Elective offices designated - Election - Term <br /> A. The qualified electors shall elect, at the November 3, <br /> 1981, regular municipal election, and every four years thereafter, <br /> a mayor, a city clerk, and a city treasurer from the city at large. <br /> Such officers shall hold their respective offices for a term of four <br /> years, commencing on the first Monday after the first Tuesday in <br /> January following their election. <br /> B. The qualified electors of each of the several wards of <br /> the city shall elect, at the November 3, 1981, regular municipal <br /> election, two city council members from each of the several wards. <br /> The council member in each ward receiving the highest number of votes <br /> shall hold office for a term of four years; the council member in <br /> each ward receiving the second highest number of votes shall hold <br /> office for a term of two years with each term commencing on the first <br /> Monday after the first Tuesday in January following their election. <br /> C. Thereafter, at the next subsequent regular election <br /> and at each regular election thereafter, the qualified electors of <br /> each ward shall elect one city council merooer from each of the wards. <br />
