Memorandum <br />To:Historical Commission <br />From:Bridget Bacon, Museum Coordinator <br />Date:April 12, 2011 <br />Re:Museum Coordinator’s Report <br />I attended the ANFRM Professional Group meeting at the Forney Museum of Transportation in <br />Denver on March 14, 2011. The accompanying program for museum professionals related to <br />the unique issues that arise when working with teen volunteers and older volunteers at <br />museums. <br />I have continued to assista local author who is writing a book about Louisville by providing <br />historical information as well asimagesfrom the Museum’s collection. More information about <br />the book will be forthcoming.I also provided information about Louisville history, in response to <br />their requests, to two newspaper writers who are working on articles about Louisville. <br />SimplexGrinnell has completed its installation of a fire detection system in the Museum <br />buildings, funded by the City of Louisville!The system involves three types of alarms: smoke <br />alarms, high heat alarms, and fire alarm pull stations. <br />Anne Robinson, Diane Marino, and I will be meeting to plan for this summer’s historical walking <br />tours. Anne will continue with her downtown tours, while Diane will be organizing one or more <br />toursof the historical residential area. We will work on determining the total number of walking <br />tours and the dates. <br />Pete Lindquist, author of “The Untold Story of Louisville’s First Years” that appeared in the Fall <br />2010 issue of The Louisville Historian, is working on a follow up article for the Historical <br />Museum. HeandI have tentatively scheduled it to appear in the Historianin 2012. <br />The Museum and Library are sponsoring two programs in recognition of National Preservation <br />Month in May: <br />Beth Barrett’s program on historic theaters in Colorado, “High Drama,” is scheduled for <br />th <br />Wednesday, May 4at 7 PM at the Library. The program is based on Beth’s book of the <br />same name. <br />rd <br />On Monday, May 23,at 7 PM at the Library, the program “Energy Upgrades to Historic <br />Buildings” will show audience members how to improve energy performanceandcomfort <br />without destroying the character of a historic home or business.This program is being <br />additionally sponsored by the Historic Preservation Commission and the Sustainability <br />Advisory Board. <br />The most recent History Book Club topic, in April, was“Saloons and the West.” In lieu of a May <br />meetingwith a topic, the group will attend Beth Barrett’s program on historic theaters on May <br />th <br />4. <br /> <br />
