At the time of acquisition, the <br />schools provided all day or part-day care for children ages three to five years. Today <br />our basic program pI' vides a wide range of educational experiences for children from <br />two years to twelve ears (sixth grade). We also provide infant care in particular <br />markets that have a reat demand for it. <br />By 1975 we had 85 Le Petite Academies in operation; by 1976 there were 106; by 1 977 we <br />had 117 ; growing at steady rate, by 1978 there were 134 ; by 1979 we had 168 ; and by the <br />end of 1980 we had 2 0 La Petite's in operation. Management projects building approxi- <br />mately 60 new school 1.n 1981. <br />Each center employs director/head teacher and typically six to fifteen teaching assist- <br />ants. The director 1. a full-time employee and the assistants are either full or part-time <br />personnel. College tudents, substitute teachers in the public school system and various <br />other qualified pers ns are considered for part-time positions. <br />Regulations in most tates require that the director have either a college degree in early <br />childhood education r two to three years of experience in a day care or nursery school. <br />La Petite currently mploys 27 regional directors. Each director can adequately manage <br />6 to 12 centers. Ab ve the regional director level, 1.n areas of geographic concentration <br />are three divisional directors supervising the regions. In addition, there are three <br />assistant directors f operation working out of the home office to supervise specific <br />reg1.ons. All report directly to the director of operations. <br />The regional directo selects, trains and develops the directors within her region. She <br />assists them in impl menting programs and curriculum; evaluates the purchase of food and <br />the preparation and erving of meals; assists directors in interfacing with all state <br />licensing and other egulatory agencies to insure continued compliance; develops and <br />supervises the folIo -through on all ~~rketing and enrollment programs; and evaluates <br />the financial contro s of the individual units. She insures a continued level of high <br />morale among directo s, staff and children. <br />From the unit direct r level up, all managing personnel receive a base salary and an <br />incentive bonus on t e operating profit of their center. <br />La ?etite has a poli y of promoting from within. Experienced directors and staff are <br />usually offered the pportunity to staff new day care centers. <br />Regardless of prior raining or experience, each center director is required to parti- <br />cipate 1.n a two-week training program. Assistant directors participate in a one-week <br />training program. C ntinuing training programs are conducted approximately quarterly <br />either at La Petite' home office or Cllt regional locations. All La Petite personnel <br />are required to meet applicable provincial, state and local licensing regulations. <br />We also have a fleet administrator in home office. Also at home office, we have a <br />real estate manager, a director of prClperty development, and a construction coordinator. <br />La Petite believes t ere is no single approach to learning. Diversified programs 1 ncorp- <br />orate many choices 0 activities for the children. Two programs that illustrate the La <br />Petite philosophy ar "Alpha-Time" and "Learning for Living". <br /> -1- <br />
