Approval of Intergovernmental Agreement with Boulder County for
Exchange of Geographic Data
Award Bid for the North Waster Treatment Plant Caustic Soda Tanks
Appointment to Local Licensing Authority

PUBLIC COMMENTS ON ITEMS NOT ON THE AGENDA

Caryl Shields, 1432 Truman Court, Louisville, appeared before Council to thank them for
their decision to not construct and develop an entryway on the west side of McCaslin
Boulevard. She explained that she feels that low-water landscapes are in harmony with
the area's precipitation and clay soil. She encouraged Council to use low-water plants for
landscaping throughout the City and to plant buffalo grass in the medians and along the
City streets. She recommended two books written by Jim Knopf, a Boulder native, on
low-water landscaping.

Jean Morgan, 1131 Spruce Street, Louisville, also thanked Council for their decision to
preserve the west side of McCaslin Boulevard. She encouraged the use of low-water
plants to landscape the east side. She distributed a picture of a low-water landscape
created by the city of Plano, Texas using all native plants. She felt that the City could also
use native prairie plants and grasses to produce beautiful landscapes. She reported that
she has received a number of positive responses from individuals who read her comments
in the local newspaper requesting that the City preserve the native prairie on McCaslin
Boulevard. She stated that a member of the Rocky Mountain Arsenal wildlife staff
approached her with a suggestion to develop an educational plan that could be used in
Louisville and at the arsenal. She offered to provide a list of individuals who are willing
to help the Parks Department with plans for the area.

Sisk thanked Morgan & Shields for taking the lead to preserve the west side of McCaslin
Boulevard. He suggested that the City pursue grant monies that might be available for the
preservation of native plants/grassland.

Morgan replied that she has information on organizations that provide grants for plant
and grassland preservation and offered to provide the information to the Parks
Department.

COUNCIL INFORMATIONAL COMMENTS ON PERTINENT ITEMS NOT ON
THE AGENDA

Keany reported that there was recently a fire in his office building, and thanked the fire
department for their professionalism and quick response to his call for assistance. He
extended congratulations to the Boulder County and Centaurus Varsity cheerleading
teams. He explained that both teams placed at the regional competition held this past
weekend and earned bids to go to Orlando to compete at the National Cheerleading
Competition to be held in March.
