Sustainability Advisory Board
June 15, 2011 Meeting Minutes
Page 2of 2
bit too early. Arno said the Update is not published until August and suggested adding a
reference to composting tips on the website.
Cullen suggested generating a standard format with website links in each update. Arno
mentioned that there were several articles in the last update about sustainability that were
not ours. Perhaps we should summarize ideas and then add links to the rest of the topics?
Mark asked what directives we received on the last article. Mary Ann said Meredyth only
requested that the article be 200 words or less. When published, although slightly over the
word count limit, the article was accepted. But all color and graphics had been removed.
It was decided that as a standard practice, members developing an article will email it
through Kerry for review and final approval if not able to bring it to a meeting for discussion.
Arno asked if Dave Sabados could give his presentation on lighting before this year’s
parade of lights. He should speak to both what the city has done to improve efficiency and
what citizens can do to save lighting/energy costs. Tom said he would ask Dave.
There will be four community updates next year. It was decided to have standard topics for
the quarterly issues: water in the spring, composting in the summer, and energy for the fall
issue. The topic for winter was not determined.
Cullen suggested that for the for July 15 deadline a summary of composting (Annie), link to
that on our website, and a brief summary of solar tours (Andy) be submitted. It was
unanimously approved.
IX.Livable Cities Action Plan (Mary Ann)
Mary Ann presented her action plan (attached) for educating various groups on the livable
cities concepts. She indicated that the presentation was essentially the same as that used
for our City Council study session; she was in the process of updating some photos. The
objective of the presentations was not only to educate but also to obtain feedback,
suggestions, and comments about the approach.
She asked if additional groups should be added to the list she was targeting. Suggestions
included the Chamber of Commerce, the Louisville Revitalization Committee, and Public
Works department. Annie suggested she locate a specific cycling group through Louisville
Cyclery.
It was suggested that she present to the Planning Commission after she had obtained
support/feedback from several other groups. Mark asked if she would make the
presentation alone and Mary Ann said that she would definitely welcome other members of
LSAB at the presentations. She will let people know when dates with various groups are
established and ask for participation from other members.
Cullen offered to insert the presentation in new he has software which createsa better
presentation.
The action plan was approved unanimously.
