Horticulture & Forestry <br />Advisory Board <br />Minutes <br />Thursday, June 2, 2011 <br />Library Meeting Room <br />951 Spruce Street <br />7:00 <br />PM <br />Call to Order—Chair Mike Frontczak called the meeting to order at 7:10 pm. <br />I. <br />Roll Call—Board members present: Shelly Alm, Mike Frontczak, Meredith <br />II. <br />Preston-Eddy, Theresa Rounds, Matt Tepe, Ellen Toon. Board member absent: <br />Kimberly Heestand. Staff member present: Chris Lichty. <br />Approval of Agenda—The agenda was approved by all members. <br />III. <br />Approval of Minutes—The minutes from the May 5, 2011 meeting were approved. <br />IV. <br />Public Comments on Items Not on the Agenda—No public present. Discussion <br />V. <br />about methods and timing of watering turf grass. Early morning is usually the <br />recommendedtime. On slopes and/or clay soil, shorter sprinkler cycles improve <br />absorption rates. Mike commented that weed control in several areas of Louisville has <br />been very effective. Chris noted that flags placed in turf areas are being used to advise <br />residents of upcoming herbicide applications by the City. <br />Review of Study Session with City Council, May 24—Study session went well. <br />VI. <br />Theresa led Council through a brief, well-organized review of HFAB activities and goals. <br />Format is an excellent opportunity to educate and raise Council’s awareness of current <br />horticulture-related events (such as drought); and the various responsibilities and issues <br />that the Parks Department faces throughout the year. <br />Thursday, June 16, 6:00 –8:00 pm <br />Library Presentation, —Email reminder to all <br />VII. <br />mailing lists should be sent June 6, and again on June 14. Suggestion was made to <br />announce the talk on Channel 8; and to post announcements at the Recreation Center <br />and Library as well.
