Memorandum
To:Historical Commission
From:Bridget Bacon, Museum Coordinator
Date:August 8, 2011
Re:Museum Coordinator’s Report
I have been in touch with Boulder County staffregarding two brochuresbeing distributed to
commemorate the County's 150th anniversary this year. Both touch on Louisville history and
our Historical Museum. One is a Boulder County Historic Sites Self-Guided Tour. The
sevenLouisville historic sitesselected by the County to beincluded in this brochure are
predominantly made up of Louisvillesites listed on the National Register. They consist of:
the Grain Elevator at 540 County Rd., the Casa Alegre buildingat 1006 Pine, The
Huckleberry building at 700 Main, the State Mercantile Building at 801 Main, the Old
Louisville Inn building at 740 Front, the Louisville Historical Museum (Jacoe Store building)
at 1001 Main, and the Louisville Center for the Arts building at 801 Grant.
The other Boulder County brochurehonoring the 150th anniversary is a Museum Passport
Guide to Boulder County's historical, cultural, art, and science museums. The Louisville
Historical Museum is one of the 24 museum listings. Visitors to these sites can get their
"passports" stamped at each museum and becomeeligible to enter a raffle.
I assisted writers forBoulder County Business Report with the Louisville section of a special
insert that came with the BCBR's July 22-Aug 4, 2011 issue. The special insert isentitled
"Milestones: Icons and History of the Boulder Valley" and it includes eightpages with
positive coverageabout Louisville, past and present.
The August 2 Brown Bag with founders of the Historical Museum, organized as a way to
commemorate the Museum's 25th anniversary, was a great success. The panel of six
founders, made up of Pat Seader, Virginia Caranci, John Garcia, Betty Buffo, Ron Buffo,
and Marion Junior, inspired and entertained us with their stories of how they got the
Museum started.
I’mcontinuing to workon an emergency plan for the Museum in connection with my attendance
at two workshopsheld in Fort Collins by the Western States and Territories Preservation
Assistance Service (WESTPAS). In July, I attended the second of two workshops of“Protecting
Cultural Collections.”In upcoming weeks, I plan to obtain information on the extent to which
insurance would help with recovery efforts of the collectionin case of damageand also acquire
somerecommended emergency supplies to keep on hand at the Museum.
