Planning Commission <br />Meeting Minutes <br />April 14, 2011 <br />Page 8 of 13 <br /> <br />Russ stated it is 9 PM. <br />Sheets asked someone to describe crusher fine for use on the patio. <br />Josh Karp, owners of LuLu’s BBQ, described the crusher fines and the drainage <br />benefits of allow any water to drain into the ground. <br />Sheets asked if this was an appropriate material to use, it just seems a little <br />rustic. <br />Karp stated the front patio hours should be with business hours of 2 AM. <br />Sheets asked the applicants were okay with the 12 AM closure for the rear <br />property. <br />Karp stated yes, because it’s a good step in the right direction. <br />Public Comment: <br />None heard. <br />Summary Comments and Request from Staff and/or Applicant <br />None heard. <br />Closed Public Hearing – Planning Commission Discussion <br />O’Connell stated she is glad to see the pedestrian pathway to Main. She <br />recommends leaving the condition regarding the bike parking as is. She also <br />encouraged more dialogue for a change of any closing hours for patios <br />downtown. <br />Russell stated this is a great project and thanked Karp for resolving issues with <br />the neighbor. <br />Loo stated her support and she also thanked Karp for addressing the concerns of <br />the neighbor so quickly. She also noted there is a restaurant in New Mexico that <br />has used crusher fines in the patio area and it has worked out quite well. <br />Lipton and Pritchard stated their agreement with the previous comments. <br />Brauneis encouraged the applicant to get a little creative with the fence line. <br />Sheets stated she generally supports the project. She especially likes the <br />architecture. Her biggest concern remains to be parking. The study completed by <br />staff is already outdated. Also, the City should not pay for the curbing; it should <br />be paid for by the applicants. She thanked the applicant for working with the <br />neighbors. She would also like to see more discussion about changing the <br />closing times along Main Street. <br />Roll Call Vote <br />Pritchard moved and Brauneis seconded a motion to approve Resolution No. 8, <br />Series 2011, a resolution recommending approval of a request for a special <br />review use (SRU) amendment for 701 Main Street, expanding the existing <br />outdoor patio seating area for the Cactus Wheel Restaurant and providing a new <br /> <br />
