A. Property owners would be eligible for a $25,000 award for obtaining a
landmark designation from the City Council. This award would have no
conditions attached to it.
B. Property owners who successfully obtained a landmark designation would
also be eligible for a $50,000 grant for preserving, rehabilitating or restoring
the landmarked property. Grants could also be used to offset any costs of
preserving the historical integrity of a landmarked building that is being
expanded pursuant to Section 17.16.280 and 17.28.050 of the Louisville
Municipal Code. These grants would have to be applied for within 18 months
of the landmark designation.
Properties which contribute to the character, historical or architectural merit in downtown
Louisville and which are not eligible to be landmarked could receive the following
incentives for entering into a preservation easement with the City:
A. Property owners would eligible for a $25,000 award for obtaining designation
of a Structure of Merit from the Preservation Commission and entering into a
conservation easement approved by the City Council. A property subject to a
conservation easement would also be subject to requirements for alteration
certificates, as with landmarked structures. This award would have no
conditions attached to it.
B. Property owners of buildings deemed to be structures of merit would also be
eligible for a $35,000 grant for preserving, rehabilitating or restoring the
property. Grants could also be used to offset any costs of preserving the
structural merit of a building that is being expanded pursuant to Section
17.16.280 and 17.28.050 of the Louisville Municipal Code. These grants
would have to be applied for within 18 months of the property's designation
of a structure of merit.
Property owners receiving any of these benefits would not be precluded from
applying for other incentives from the HPF.
These amounts and types of incentives are just suggestions at this point.
Commercial property owners may have other suggestions for the effective use of
the HPF, and these suggestions are welcome.
14
