Resource Conservation Advisory Board
Minutes
March 12, 2007

Visitor Comments on Green Points and other Green Building Strategies
. Each of the guests commented on their perspective of the efficacy of various
strategies for working with green building programs.
. Boulder's Green Building representative provided the following comments:
1. A green building program is not static; it will evolve as lessons are
learned.
2. Boulder's green building program has been widely accepted by the
builders and the consumers.
3. The best approach for Louisville's green building program is to
adopt the elements of an existing program in the county so builders
will have one set of rules/incentives to follow.
. McStain's representative provided the following comments:
1. McStain does all their own inspection of the use of green building
techniques.
2. Some of their subcontractors require training on green building
requirements.
3. A future issue in green building will be interior air quality.
4. Wood is readily recyclable by a company that builds engineered
wood products.
5. In the near future, builders that are not "green" will be the
exception.
6. Any program adopted by Louisville should be as close as possible
to programs in the surrounding area.
7. McStain installs a vent tube from the basement to the attic to
remove radon. Basement air is always tested for radon. If the vent
tube proves to be insufficient, a fan is installed to remove more air
through the vent tube.
. Mona Newton provided the following comments:
1. Lot lines and orientation of the roof almost never prevents the
installation of an effective photovoltaic system.
2. Installation of the system's wiring is facilitated by the installation of
a capped tube that runs from the attic to the basement at the time
of construction.
3. Shade from large trees is the biggest obstacle to installing an
effective photovoltaic system.
Action Items:
Distill the visitor's comments to determine which, if any will be included in the
LRCAB goals.
Determine which, if any will be recommended to council.

2007 LRCAB Goals
. An additional meeting is required to further discuss LRCAB 2007 goals.

Adjourn - The meeting was adjourned at 9:25pm.
