He explained saving old buildings creates jobs and old buildings are the new <br /> economy. Historic preservation has long -term economic impact and adds value to the <br /> lives of Colorado residents. He reviewed the history of Louisville's historic preservation <br /> development from 1979 2008 as follows: <br /> 1979 Louisville Historical Commission established by City Council. <br /> 1983 Louisville Historical Museum established by City Council. <br /> 80's /90's Community workshops rank preserving historic downtown top priority. <br /> 1982 135 historic structures surveyed as part of a possible local historic district. <br /> 1985 12 properties were listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The <br /> structures were designated by the Secretary of the Interior as the Louisville <br /> Multiple Resource District. <br /> 1990's capital improvernent tax passed to fund public improvements in Historic <br /> Downtown. <br /> 1990's Task Force for Downtown Improvements formed. Worked with public <br /> works /downtown property owners to develop streetscape. <br /> 1990's Task Force worked to develop the plaza at the east end of Spruce Street <br /> downtown/ partnered with downtown businesses to develop a signage plan for <br /> "Historic Downtown <br /> 1990's Downtown Business Association (DBA) markets "Historic Downtown <br /> Louisville Considers preservation an important factor for their economic future. <br /> 1996 "The Next Decade Plan" a ten -year plan to guide future development in <br /> Old Town Louisville. Plan supports the Louisville DBA members, the Louisville <br /> Historical Commission and the City. <br />
