Horticultural & Forestry Advisory Board
Minutes
DATE
them. She told how she uses a natural lawn care company and after five
years her costs are less then a neighbor's who uses a chemical company.

Fred wonders where Organolawn fits in to our city's land management.
Theresa said that they were not the low bidder. Tim explained that the
transitional phase and the market niche cost more money but the clientele
is beginning to demand Ghemical-free alternatives. He said that Scott's
chemical company does customer research and years ago the customer's
number one concern was cost, now it is safety.

Doug Grinbergs said that people really need to take this matter seriously.
Too often there is a caviler attitude in offices and government and one
thing to keep in mind is that to dispose of any of these chemicals you have
to take them to hOUSE!ho~d hazardous waste. He believes that the
European Union has a better idea and it is not just crazy people making
this stuff up. He thinks when it comes to a bid consideration for the city,
public health should weigh more heavily than just low cost. He presented
pictures of a city employee spraying pesticides into a storm drain and
spraying in front of a Montessori School.

Susan believes that design needs to be more of a consideration to limit
chemical usage and that there is a place for chemicals in the transition.

Tim said he just wants the risks to be known.

3. New Topic. Matt said that we have permission to use the city booth and
we need to determinEl if we are going to sell our bricks to raise money for
the Arboretum. Fred was disappointed with the lagging Arboretum 501 c3
status. Fred expressled that our volunteering only covers the meetings
and not much further. JE~ff agreed saying that we have taken too much on
to do anything more than half way. Fred believes that the arboretum is a
city asset and the city needs to invest money on an annual basis for
maintenance.

Discussion Items for Nlext Meeting - All other agenda items were moved to
next months meeting.

Adjourn - The meeting was adjourned at 8:10 p.m.
