BRaD
Meeting Summary
September 6, 2011
approved. Michael Menaker asked how the loan will be repaid and Audrey said that HOT lane tolls
will pay back the loan over 30 years.
Sheri Marsella, Council member, commented that the success of the coalition was the reason for
successfully getting the loan – congratulated US36 Commuting Solutions for their work.
Troy Russ, Planning Director, said there are other projects related to US36 planned for 2012,
US36 and McCaslin Bus Bypass, and the McCaslin and Dillon intersection work that is being
coordinated with RTD, Public Works and Centennial Valley Merchants.Planning will keep the
Centennial Valley merchants updated as the projects progress.
It was suggested by Chair Sackett, to make a motion to support these efforts, however, City
Manager Fleming reminded BRaD members that this was not appropriate since this item was not
officially on the agenda. Recommended to members to attend City Council meetings to voice
opinions/support.
PRESENTATION: DICK ALBAIR, REGIONAL REPRESENTATIVE FROM THE STATE OFFICE
OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND ECONOMIC TRADE (OEDIT)
Mr. Albair, Central Business Development Representative for the State Office of Economic
Development and Economic Trade gave an overview. His Colorado territory spans 24 counties
which includes the counties along the front range. He coordinates with an incredible network of
economic partners through these counties to bring new business into the state. The coordination
that exists within the State of Colorado and these partners is unique and not like other states.
There is coordination on the local, county and state level. He handed out the Colorado Blueprint
Intiatives which focus on the Top 6 Goals for the State Office of Economic Development and these
initiatives were developed with input from all 64 counties in the State. These initiatives will be
worked on for the next 2 years, and they are:
1. Build a Business-Friendly Environment
2. Recruit, Grow and Retain Businesses
3. Increase Access to Capital
4. Create and Market a Stronger Colorado Brand
5. Education and Train the Workforce of the Future
6. Cultivate Innovation and Technology
There was some discussion about what will the new cabinet look like under Governor
Hickenlooper, and Mr. Albair responded that the Governor has instructed the Cabinet to look at
anything within the State agencies that obstructs business, and this list is currently being compiled.
CTC TRAIL UPDATE:
Rob Lathrop reported that Joe Stevens, Parks and Recreation Director, said the construction of
the trail should occur in late spring 2012, pending budget approval.
Scott Reichenberg requested that a written agreement be put together to document the CTC Metro
District commitment for funding to this project. City Manager Fleming agreed to put the agreement
together.
