Open Space Advisory Board
Minutes
Sept. 14, 2011
VI. Discussion: Scott Belonger, Loris & Associates, Design & Engineering
for the Aquarius Trailhead Renovation Project
Mr. Belonger discussed some of the issues and proposals for
enhancements at the Aquarius Trailhead.
Current problems include: poor drainage, steep slopes in the
o
parking lot, poor quality of surface (roadway) materials.
Proposed design features include:
o
Use aggregate/gravel for parking surface material, with
colored concrete path along the perimeter;
Asphalt apron on/off from the road;
Drainage runs towards a center island, and the island will
have plantings and a drainage inlet;
Small island at the entrance of the trailhead.
Site design includes the potential for an enclosed structure
to house a portable toilet.
Future maintenance is expected to include grading, but otherwise
o
be relatively minimal.
Staff will look more specifically into the potential
maintenance costs associated with this design.
VII. Discussion: Jeff Moline, City of Lafayette, Lafayette Request for
Amendment to the Mayhoffer 15 Management Plan
Property is jointly owned by Louisville, Boulder County and Lafayette.
The purpose of today’s presentation is to ask OSAB to make a
recommendation to add a trail alignment on the north side of the property
parallel to SH 42.
Property was originally acquired to ensure the continuation of agriculture
in the local area, provide urban buffers, preserve habitat, and where
appropriate, incorporate trail access.
Presently, the three agencies have been working on obtaining a
connection between the Coal Creek and Rock Creek Trails, through the
large open space that lies between these two trails.
th
Construction is currently in progress on a trail between 104 St.
o
and Hwy 287.
The proposed trail would run along the northern side of Mayhoffer, and
eventually, with additional trail work, would connect with Coal Creek.
The trail would be a crusher fine trail.
o
Because of the three-pronged ownership, OSAB would have to approve
the change to the management plan for Mayhoffer Section15.
Lafayette and Boulder County have already recommended that the
o
amendment be approved.
Proposed language: “Allow for a soft-surface trail alignment along and
inside the north property line such that it most minimally impacts farming
operations.”
