CONSTITUTION WEEK PROCLAMATION <br />SEPTEMBER 17 -23 <br />WHEREAS, <br />WHEREAS, <br />WHEREAS, <br />It is the privilege and duty of the American people to commemorate <br />the two - hundred twenty -fourth anniversary of the Constitution of the <br />United States of America with appropriate ceremonies and activities, and <br />Every American shares in this legacy of liberty, and we are grateful for the <br />courage, conviction, and sacrifice of all those who have helped preserve <br />and uphold the principles of a free society. As we remember the enduring <br />importance of the Constitution, we also recognize our responsibility as <br />citizens to respect and defend the values of our founding, and participate <br />in the unfolding story of freedom. <br />In celebration of the signing of the Constitution and in recognition of the <br />Americans who strive to uphold the duties and responsibilities of <br />citizenship, the Congress, by joint resolution of August 2, 1956 (36 U.S.C., <br />1o8, as amended), request through this proclamation that the week of <br />September 17 and ending September 23 of each year as "Constitution <br />Week." <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that I, Mayor Charles Sisk of the City of <br />Louisville do hereby proclaim the week of September 17th through the 23rd as <br />CONSTITUTION WEEK and urge all citizens to study the Constitution, and reflect <br />on the privilege of being an American with all the rights and responsibilities which <br />that privilege involves. <br />DATED this 6th day of September 2011. <br />Charles Sisk, Mayor <br />ATTEST: <br />Nancy Varra, City Clerk <br />31 <br />
