The document parallels the commercial design guidelines in <br />terms of the format and its layout. <br /> <br />Wood outlined the staff's recommendations to Council: <br /> <br />1. As relates to Section 5.2.A., requiring one tree per 20 linear feet within a 10-foot <br /> wide planting strip on side proper lines within the public zone, staff recommends that <br /> the density be reduced to one tree per 30 linear feet. <br /> <br />2. As relates to Section 2.2.1 .K., excluding as a standard, compact parking spaces, staff <br /> recommend 20 percent compact spaces, with a dimension of 8-feet by 7-feet. <br /> <br />3. As relates to Section 5.1 .A.4, requiring eight shrubs per tree in the streetscape <br /> landscape setback area, staff recommends reducing the requirement to 5 or 6 shrubs <br /> per tree. <br /> <br />Davidson opened the public hearing and asked if there was anyone in the audience that <br />wished to speak in favor or opposition of Ordinance No. 1322, Series 2000. <br /> <br />Jon Leh, Community Development Group, stated that the development community is <br />excited about the IDDSG. He thanked the Council for the opportunity to work on the <br />IDDSGS committee. <br /> <br />Davidson closed the public hearing and called for Council comments and questions. <br /> <br />Mayer commended everyone who worked on this project. In terms of the staff <br />recommendations, Mayer was concerned with regards to the compact spaces. He stated <br />that he would prefer to maintain the standard on parking. <br /> <br />Sisk agreed with Councilman Mayer. He stated that he would not support adding <br />compact spaces. <br /> <br />Howard asked for clarification of the foliage changes and the addition of 20 percent <br />compact parking. <br /> <br />Paul Wood, Planning Director, stated that matured trees and shrubs create space problems <br />for required easements and detention ponds. With regard to compact spaces, Wood noted <br />that it provides flexibility to site plans, and that industrial property does not have a lot of <br />turn over in the parking lots. <br /> <br />Davidson stated that he had no objections to fewer shrubs as long as they are bigger <br />shrubs. He also agreed with Councilman Sisk and Mayer on the compact space issue. He <br />thanked the development community for working on this project. <br /> <br />Sisk moved that Council adopt Ordinance No. 1322, Series 1999, on second and final <br />reading with the amendment as indicated on staff discussion Section 5.2 A., requiring one <br /> <br /> <br />
