Rob asked for this item
to be taken off the agenda and brought back in the spring of 2012 when the start of trail
construction is planned.
RETENTION MEETINGS:
Doodlebugs –
Dana Alford and Hank Dalton - Doodlebugs is located in the old Quizno’s location
in the Centennial Valley and is an art retail/instruction business and caters to children and adults.
The owners of the business are thoughtful and well-organized. The one negative they report is
th
visibility off McCaslin. Chamber announced there will be a ribbon-cutting on October 28at Noon.
Marcos Pizza
– Ron Sackett and Bonnie Star - Located in the old State Farm building, Marcos
Pizza offers delivery to Louisville, Superior and portions of Lafayette. They are happy to be
located in Louisville, however, the location is a problem since the entrance to the business is on
the back (west side) of the building. Plenty of parking is available on the west side and the
business owner would like to attract more customers to his location, and wants to attract high
school students during the lunch hour. Mayor Pro Tem Sheri Marsella commented that a way to do
this would be to employ high school students and some of the restaurants along McCaslin offer
free drinks to high school students. The owner of the building is going to be installing additional
signage indicating where the entrance is located to Marcos.
Medtronic –
Bonnie Star - accompanied Dick Albair of the State Office of Economic Development
to Medtronic in early September. Bonnie was able to demo some of the medical navigation
equipment they manufacture. The company currently has 250 to 275 employees. Fifty new
positions were added this year. Medtronic thought the City of Louisville would not allow the use of
cadavers in their Louisville facility, however, Bonnie worked with Planning staff to verify that the
use of cadavers is allowed.
System Skateboarding
– Malcolm Fleming and Dana Alford - Located on McCaslin next to Bean
and Berry. The store has a very nice selection of merchandise and the owner of the business has
a passion for skateboarding. Location is a problem since the store is not easily seen off of
McCaslin. The owner commented the Louisville Skate Park is not as good as skateboard parks
recently built, however, he offered the following positive comment about the park:
Walkable for kids
Still a viable skate park for a few more years
Working with Parks and Recreation on some improvements at the park
Would love to create a community around skateboarding and promote as a wholesome
activity
Troy Russ, Planning Director, offered a general note about all businesses located along McCaslin
that private landscaping is interfering with the visibility.
DISTRIBUTE 2012-2013 ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT STRATEGIC PLAN
Bonnie distributed and asked members to review and to let her know throughout the year any
changes or additions that should be made.
