Memorandum
To: Historical Commission
From: Bridget Bacon, Museum Coordinator
Date: November 8, 2011
Re: Museum Coordinator's Report
The curtain from the Rex Theatre is on exhibit at the Museum. I have started to work on
creating interpretive information about the curtain to give to visitors, and have started putting
together a related exhibit to go along with the curtain.
The Museum's Brown Bag on Tuesday, Dec. 6th from 12 to 1 will be a presentation by
Heather Lewis of the Louisville Historic Preservation Commission on "Here Today and There
Tomorrow: Louisville and Its History of Relocating Buildings" based on her lead article of the
same name in the new Louisville Historian that will be coming out shortly.
Mary Kay Knorr represented the Historical Museum at the October Volunteer Group meeting
of the Assn. of Northern Front Range Museums, held at the Adams County Historical
Society & Museum in Brighton.
I used Museum funds to purchase the book Fundraising for Small Museums In Good Times
and Bad by Salvatore G. Cilella, Jr. It contains useful information and recommendations and
it's now available for Commission members to borrow and read. It is also available at area
libraries. One thing to keep in mind is that the Louisville Historical Commission is an
advisory board and fundraising board for a city that operates a museum as opposed to
being a governing board itself. The book is primarily aimed at boards that operate museums
and have to raise funds for operating costs, and which may not have the same constraints
as governmental advisory boards.
Museum Visitors Report (these statistics represent visits to the Museum itself, and not inquiries
that come in by email or phone): October visitors: 279; YTD visitors: 1311.
