ORD I NANCE NO. '3 '/ 7

:. AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR A SYSTEMATIC METHOD OF NAMING STREETS AND
NUMBERING HOUSES WITHIN THE CITY OF LOUISVILLE AND IN NEW ADDITIONS
THERETO:

WHEREAS, in the past confusion has arisen in the naming of streets and
the numbering of houses which has resulted in duplicated and confusing street
names making it difficult for the citizens, mail carriers and others to rapidly
locate a person1s house;

NOW THEREFORE
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LOUISVILLE, COLORADO

Section 1. The following procedure is hereby adopted for the naming
of streets and the numbering of houses within the City limits of the City
of Louisville and new additions thereto, to-wit:

(a) Guide for Roadway Naming. The purpose of this roadway naming
and house numbering plan is to provide an orderly and contiguous pattern
throughout the City and to enable a particular roadway and house to be found
as quickly and easily as possible.
Plats of new subdivisions shall be reviewed by the City Manager or
his representative in order to avoid duplication of roadway names. House
numbers in the City shall be assigned by the City building inspection depart-
ment as building permits are issued, or upon demand.
1. Roadways running east and west are streets.
2. Roadways running north and south are avenues.
3. Roadways that both originate and terminate on an avenue are
ways if less than 1000 feet in length, or drives if over
1000 feet in length.
4. Roadways with a dead end or a cul-de-sac are courts if less
than 1000 feet in length, or lanes if over 1000 feet in length.
5. Curving roadways returning to their origin are circles.
6. Other roadway designations shall be approved by the City Manager.
7. Interrupted roadways that are in alignment with streets in
other parts of the City shall have the same name.
8. Roadway'names shall not be duplicated in the City.
9. Roadway signs shall be readable from each direction of travel.
10. Temporary signs are required during construction periods.

(b) Guide for House Numbering
1. Front footage along a street is given a number, rather than
a particular structure. Since there is no way of knowing
how many structures will eventually be built on land now vacant,
numbers should be spaced from 0-99 on each major block so that
the 50 will be in the middle of the block.
2. Odd numbers shall be on the north and west sides of roadways,
with even numbers on the south and east sides.
3. Numbers should not be duplicated for five blocks. (For example:
first house 501; next street, first house 503; next street,
first house 505; 507 etc.)
4. House numbers shall be readable from the roadway, particularly
at night.
5. All new de:velopments and numbering systems shall be submitted
to the City Manager for approval.

Section 2. That all other ordinances or parts thereof in conflict with
