To Whom It May Concern:
am writing to you to provide additional background information on the variance
request for my property at 1059 W. Willow St., Louisville, CO 80027.
am requesting a variance to build an 8 -foot tall wooden picket fence along the west
edge of my property, which backs to McCaslin approximately 8 houses north of
Harper Lake.
The proposed fence would replace a city owned 8 -foot tall fence that was damaged
in high winds during the summer of 2011 and was subsequently torn down this fall.
The original city owned, 8 -foot tall cedar fence, was built in 1990 as a "good
neighbor" gesture after McCaslin was redirected through the original backyard of
my property using an imminent domain purchase.
The 8 -foot height was chosen since the land slopes down from both my house and
McCaslin to the point where the fence is built; effectively yielding a fence that would
be equivalent to a 3 -4 foot tall fence on a non - graded plot.
With this fence missing there is a significant loss of privacy in my residence and in
my backyard. I now find myself making awkward eye contact with pedestrians and
even people in cars when traffic is flowing slowly on McCaslin. 1 have only been
living in my house since the summer of 2010 and 1 never would have purchased this
house if the 8 -foot fence had not been present.
1 have already spoken with my neighbors to the east whose houses front to W.
Willow St., and they had not even noticed that the original 8 -foot fence had been
removed and they do not object to it being replaced.
A precedent exists for 8 -foot tall fences in my neighborhood as the first house north
of Harper Lake along McCaslin already has an 8 -foot tall stucco fence.
Sincerely,
Corin O'Connell
