GMOs on Boulder County Open Space
Recent meeting:
Meeting on Tuesday, November 15:
Here’s an article that provides a recap of the meeting:
http://foodintegritynow.org/2011/11/16/boulder-citizens-say-no-to-gmos-will-the-commissioners-
listen/
Cropland Policies:
Draft Boulder County POS (Parks and Open Space) Cropland Policy created by the Cropland Policy
http://www.bouldercounty.org/find/library/environment/croppolicy.pdf
Advisory Group:
This document is largely pro GMO without actually saying so. There are numerous euphemisms used,
including “innovation.” There are several sections where a “minority” report has been added. These
minority reports were created by those on the board using or selling products grown using organic methods.
The Citizens Cropland Policy, which was written to as a counter to the above policy by the GMKnow
group.
Here is a side-by-side comparison of the two policies:
http://www.bcccp.info/resources/Policy_Compare_Table_final.pdf
To endorse the Citizens Cropland Policy, go to this page:
http://www.bcccp.info/1.html
Surveys:
There are two surveys, one done by Boulder County that claims slightly over 50% of the population favors
a ban on GMOs and one done by the GMKnow folks who claim that 70% favor the ban.
Getting current information to LSAB members:
There is so much information coming out now through GMKnow, that I think it would make sense for each
of us to just get it directly. To that end, I would like to sign everyone up to receive GMKnow emails and
emails from Boulder County. If anyone objects, please let me know.
Meeting with Louisville OSAB:
It looks likeWednesday,January11, 2012is the best date for most of us. So, I will try to get us on OSAB’s
agenda.
Actions:
commissioners@bouldercounty.org
Sendan email to
AttendtheBoulder County Commissioners’ Public Hearing and provide your comments. Public input will
be allowed.
Thursday December 8, 6 p.m.
Longmont Conference Center
1850 Industrial Circle
Ask your friends, neighbors, co-works, and family members to sign up to getthe GMKnow emails by
sending an email to info@gmknow.organd to endorse the Citizens Cropland policy by completing the
form: http://www.bcccp.info/1.html
