from unreliable sources, leaving the family with a concern that the
structure is a liability.)
6. Karen suggested that it would be nice to have heritage/historical
aspect to a new arts cl3nter, maybe displaying photos of the farm in the
early days. She noted that we'd like to honor the integrity of the site,
which Michael indicated was actually worked by his father, grandfather
and uncle rather than l1is mother and aunt.
7. Michael plans to talk to his mother and aunt about the idea and
then get back to Karen. The family may be open to negotiation on price
because of the charitable aspect of the proposal. They can get a
charitable deduction.
8. Michael has invited Karen and others on the committee to come
on the site for a visit and discussion.

D. Melanie, who is very committed to the historical preservation of the
grain elevator (it's on the National Register), provided a brief history of events
surrounding the grain elevator, including dealings with the Boulder Historical
Society and the Louisville Historical Commission. Melanie doesn't believe that the grain elevator is really unsound.
It has some SMALL federal protection, but someone who wanted to tear it
down could get around the protection (especially FasTrax). Melanie thinks
it would be highly eligible for Historical Preservation money. Historic
Boulder has it on its Most Endangered list. (It can be incorporated into
another structure.)
4. Don would want to make it primary to save as much of the
structure as possible and work around it to create the proposed new Arts
Center.
5. Melanie asserted that the first need is a structural assessment.
The grain elevator is Cl huge potential asset. She explained that there are
developers, such as John Hickenlooper and John Powers, who have put
together such financial packages, combining arts and historical
preservation funds, for example, potentially providing the required funding
for a new Arts Center.

X. "Activating" committees--In order to move forward, Don proposed a
committee composed of Karen, Melanie, and himself to write a proposal for the
