Louisville City Council Meeting <br />August 1, 2000 <br />Page 3. <br /> <br />Ray stated that Staff recommends Council award the bid to Shared Technologies <br />Fairchild and authorize Staff to negotiate recommended options with a final price not to <br />exceed $280,000. <br /> <br />COUNCIL COMMENTS: <br /> <br />Mayer asked if the options would total over $280,000. Ray stated that as proposed, the <br />final price should be under $280,000. <br /> <br />Mayer asked Ray if the bid was selected because it was under $280,000, or because it is <br />what the City really needs. Ray stated that one of the options recommended was unified <br />voice messaging. Because the City is on an NT system and networked to all of the <br />servers, the staff can work on the system. The last system was an OS system, which <br />required training of personnel. <br /> <br />Mayer asked if the proposed system would use the current server. Ray stated that it <br />requires a separate server but will operate off an NT system. <br /> <br />Mayer asked if the proposed system would provide the required level of reliability. Ray <br />stated that Shared Technologies Fairchild believes it will. She noted that Staff would be <br />trained on the NT system, so that in the event the system goes down, they would know <br />how to work on it. <br /> <br />Mayer asked if there were specifications in the contract that addressed the amount of <br />acceptable down time. Melanie Pappas, the City's consultant from CyberLink <br />Corporation, stated that there are really two systems. 1) The telephone system, which is <br />not an NT based system, but basically just a computer. 2) The NT system is for the voice <br />messaging system, which has hard disk drives. She explained that the system may be <br />down but no messages would be lost, as they are saved on two systems. She noted that it <br />is a redundant system where everything is saved on hard disk. <br /> <br />Mayer asked if messages would be lost if the system crashed. Pappas stated that the <br />phone system also has a redundant system. A redundant CTU unit would be on site so <br />that Staff could bring the system back up. <br /> <br />Davidson ~sked Pappas if this was a non-blocking switch, and if so, what was the <br />maximum number of lines it would be capable of handling. Pappas stated that it is a non- <br />blocking switch and that she would need a moment to research the maximum number of <br />lines. <br /> <br />3 <br /> <br /> <br />
