COUNCIL COMMUNICATION
TO: MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
FROM: MALCOLM FLEMING, CITY MANAGER
DATE: NOVEMBER 22, 2011
SUBJECT: UPDATE /DISCUSSION - PARKS, RECREATION, OPEN SPACE AND
TRAILS COMPREHENSIVE MASTER PLAN DRAFT
RECOMMENDATIONS
ORIGINATING DEPARTMENT: PARKS AND RECREATION
SUMMARY:
In August of 2010, the Parks and Recreation Department began working with GreenPlay, LLC,
a nationally renowned parks and recreation planning firm, to develop a new Master Plan to
include parks, recreation, open space, and trails in one comprehensive guiding document for
the City. The Plan will replace the outdated 1992 Parks Master Plan that is no longer relevant
to the City's needs. Over the past year, the consulting team has compiled a tremendous
amount of research and input to develop recommendations specific to the needs and interests
of the City of Louisville. Tonight's presentation will outline those recommendations which will
then be incorporated into the Final Master Plan Document.
FISCAL IMPACT:
In June of 2010, the City was awarded a GOCO Planning Grant totaling $75,000. The City is
contributing $30,000 in matching funds out of the Conservation Trust — Land Acquisition Fund
for a total budget of $105,000 to develop the new Master Plan.
ATTACHMENT(S):
Recommendations Presentation
IE
SUBJECT AGENDA ITEM
UPDATE /DISCUSSION - PARKS,
RECREATION, OPEN SPACE AND TRAILS
COMPREHENSIVE MASTER PLAN DRAFT
RECOMMENDATIONS
2
