Horticulture & Forestry Advisory Board Minutes Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012 Library Meeting Room 951 Spruce Street 7:00 PM I.Vice-chair Theresa Rounds called the meeting to order at 7:05 pm. II.Roll call—Board members present: Shelly Alm, Kimberly Heestand, Theresa Rounds, Matt Tepe, Ellen Toon, Beverlee White. Board members absent: Mike Frontczak, Meredith Preston-Eddy. Staff member present: Dean Johnson. City Council member present: Susan Loo. Guest: Kathy Kron, Parks and Recreation Dept. III.The agenda was approved by all members. IV. The minutes from the January 5, 2012 meeting were approved. V. Public Comments on Items Not on the Agenda—No public present. VI. Recreation Center Landscape Renovation Plan—Kathy Kron reviewed the landscape design produced by Design Concepts. Elements of the renovation include altering retaining walls, adding boulders, repairing plaza concrete, new metal planters, new driveway “bump-out” for additional tree planting, moving bike racks away from the center of the plaza, new steps along the south edge of the parking lot, boulders near the driveway circle to direct foot traffic, a new flagpole, and new signage near the driveway and on the building. Funding for the renovation comes from state lottery funds. Tree additions are included in the City forester’s budget. Kathy commented that the Bloomin’ Seniors group will most likely assume responsibility for maintaining the annual flower/vegetable beds.There are also plans being made for a shade structure for the skate park.
