3/1/2012 <br />Downtown Parking Wayfinding Project <br />Staff was tasked with the following initiatives: <br />• Observe existing conditions <br />• Determine why people can't find existing off- <br />street parking areas such as the library or the <br />Pine Street parking lot? <br />• Establish what steps are needed to undertake <br />to solve this parking problem <br />• Direction <br />Downtown Parking Wayfinding Project <br />Recommended Solutions <br />Sign Ideas <br />• Utilize the existing wayfinding signs, which are <br />very thematic and works well with Downtown. <br />• However, the existing wayfinding signs are too <br />small (24"h X 16"w) with 1.4" font size, therefore <br />too difficult to read. <br />• Font size should be 1 inch of letter height per 30 <br />feet of legibility distance per MUTCD standards <br />(*MUTCD = Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices). <br />• Signs should be enlarged to have a 30"h X 24"w <br />and a minimum of 3 inch font size. <br />• Alternative parking directional and directory signs <br />could be included as part of the sign package. <br />
