<br />Storage Technology Corporation <br />2270 South 88th Street <br />Louisville, Colorado 80028-6204 <br /> <br />StorageTek <br /> <br />August 2,1996 <br /> <br />Paul Wood <br />Director of Planning <br />749 Main Street <br />louisville, Colorado 80027-1896 <br /> <br />,.. ; 1'-' -, "- ,-, "".... <br />~--.u\.J ... h~ r::"'~J <br /> <br />Paul, <br /> <br /> <br />L ~L""-'- <br /> <br />'- ,,_..~~-~-~~~~', <br /> <br />Subj.: letter of Intent for modified PUD showing new entry sign <br /> <br />The following is a description of the proposed new main identification sign age at the new 96th <br />Street entry near the new interchange: <br /> <br />Concept <br /> <br />In developing an entry statement for the new intersection we felt it was important to create <br />a sign/landscape package that embraced the entire campus and its natural environment. <br />One of the components we wanted to emphasize was the fact that StorageTek is a high <br />tech company existing in a natural environment hence the winding stone wall that follows <br />the terrain and the sign emerging from the wall to appear as a "polished high tech jewel" <br />signifying StorageTek. <br /> <br />Design <br /> <br />In examining the environment in which the sign will be placed, noted components were <br />scale, existing architectural silhouettes, and viewing opportunities. StorageTek is a massive <br />facility and the sign location is away from any buildings or features to give it a visual scale, <br />in addition we wanted to avoid the "postage stamp" look with the sign. The wall was <br />developed to help frame the campus visually and help pull in the west boundary and add <br />mass to the design in an aesthetic way. The architecture and landscape are both very <br />horizontal and we wanted the sign to reflect that rather than to stick up vertically out of the <br />environment. We also examined the site lines into the sign at varying distances and <br />angles to determine proper size and location. Our primary location restraint was the <br />existing gas line. A series of prototypes were developed with various overall sign and letter <br />heights. Our goal was for the sign to be notable but not readable from the top of the Hwy <br />36 and 96th Street intersection and for the sign to become readable midway between there <br />and the 96th and Tape Drive intersection.
