Sustainability Advisory Board <br />April18,2012 Meeting Minutes <br />Page 4of10 <br />ATTACHMENT 1 TO APRIL 2012 LSAB MEETING MINUTES <br />Sustainability Initiative Discussion3/21/2012 <br />Introduction by Cindy Domenico, County Commissioner <br />Appreciate your time being here <br />Sustainability tax is a concept that the commissioners have been thinking about <br />as a way to sustain our current programs like EnergySmart which has seen great <br />success <br />Look forward to hearing what is going on in your own communities and your <br />priorities <br />This is an information gathering stage, not a decision making stage <br />Any upfront Questions for BOCC <br />How much money will we raise and for how long? <br />Answer is that we are not sure <br />o <br />Why are we looking at a sustainability tax at this time? Is this a mandatory way <br />to meet sustainability goals? <br />Much of the motivation for this is the fact that our federal grant that has <br />o <br />been utilized to run the countywideEnergySmart program is sunseting in <br />May of 2013 and in order to sustain this program and leverage the <br />infrastructure that the County and our municipal partners have built, <br />we need additional sources of revenue. However, the Commissioners <br />have been thinking about this idea for quite sometime. <br />Community Programs and Priorities <br />Lyon’s highest priorities <br />Wastewater treatment facility –Would like to put in a John Todd <br />o <br />wastewater treatment/wetlands model and use this facility as a model to <br />educate other communities <br />But need a feasibility study to better understand waste water treatment <br />o <br />plant options <br />Composting consolidation or facility–questions of how Lyons get the <br />o <br />material out of town or make useful material out of the compost <br />Lyons’ thoughts on sustainability tax <br />Lyons community members seemed they would be in support of a <br />o <br />sustainability tax, especially if it gave local communities an ability to focus <br />on their highest priorities, such as funding for the feasibility study and <br />other Lyons’ priorities. <br />They also would support the Countywide Eco-pass idea. <br />o <br />
