PAGE FOUR
SUBJECT: DISCUSSION — CONTINUATION OF THE CITY SALES AND USE TAX FOR
OPENSPACE ACQUISITION, DEVELOPMENT AND RELATED PURPOSES
DATE: FEBRUARY 13, 2012
The Louisville Citizen Survey will be conducted shortly and questions may be included that
attempt to discern support for the tax and /or questions relative to the amount of the tax, length
of term and options for expansion. Staff has scheduled a June 5, 2012 presentation to the
City Council on the results of the Louisville Citizen Survey, which would allow some time for
review and consideration of alternatives, based on survey responses. Attachment 2 is an
election calendar reflecting the deadlines for placing a measure on the ballot. July 3, 2012 is
the last regular City Council meeting to pass on 1st reading any ordinance referring TABOR
ballot issues to the voters.
FISCAL IMPACT:
It will cost approximately $35,000 to place a TABOR question on the ballot for 2012 in a
coordinated election with Boulder County (polling place election). The City budgeted $42,000
in the 2012 budget for this purpose (because the City must also have an election for the Ward
1 Council vacancy, which should use the remaining funds).
RECOMMENDATION:
Discussion
ATTACHMENTS:
1. Fund forecast, capital projects, revenues and expenditures for 2012 through 2016
2. 2012 Election Calendar
5
