Louisville Sustainability Advisory Board (LSAB) 2011 Accomplishments /2012 Goals Vision: Moving Louisville towards a more sustainable future. Mission: Promoting sustainability through energy efficiency, resource conservation, and localization to better the environment, social well being, and economic viability of the City of Louisville. 2011 Accomplishments /Activities Disseminated Sustainability Information (Arno /Ted) •' Rebuilt the LSAB web page • Linked the web page to articles • Provided articles for Community Updates Presented Livable City Principles (Mary Ann) • Presented to multiple advisory boards • Discussed how to embed the principles Move to Zero Waste (Mark) • Researched elimination of plastic bags • Heard presentation on Boulder County Zero -Waste Plan GMOs (Annie) • Participated in GMO public meetings Urban Gardening (Annie, Mary Ann) • Reviewed and provided feedback on Planning Department's white paper on urban agriculture • Began researching sites for additional community gardens • Developed a website for a Louisville Garden Exchange Greenhouse Gas Emissions /Energy Assessment (Mary Ann) • Baseline Audit with CU Denver IGERT program • Assessments made for: electricity, natural gas, transportation, material waste, community wide ( residential /commercial /industrial) • Benchmarks allow tracking progress in energy efficiency, conservation, and use of renewables. • Customized matrices provide options to consider Boulder County Solar and Green Homes Tour • 3rd year, partnership with Transition Louisville and Center for ReSource Conservation • 300 tour participants • Expanded tour to include transportation, local food, local economy. • Included Western Disposal, Boulder County Energy Smart, and Louisville's Facilities Manager 2012 Goals /Activities Disseminated Sustainability Information (Ted) • Update LSAB web page • Contribute to Community Updates Continue Livable City Presentations (Mary Ann) • To remaining Boards /Planning Commission Move to Zero Waste (Mark) • Survey merchants, gauge support levels for tax or elimination of plastic bags • Draft Resolution to adopt Boulder County Zero -Waste Plan GMOs (Annie) • Will participate in GMO policy discussions for Louisville Urban Gardening (Annie, Mary Ann) • Propose additional community gardens to Council • Install gardens in fall of 2012 • Publicize and support the Louisville Garden Exchange Greenhouse Gas Emissions /Energy Assessment (Mary Ann) • Presentation by CU staff scheduled for March • Complete feedback survey of cities who have completed Assessments • Propose study be conducted in Louisville • Request funding from Council for Assessment Comp Plan • Participate in update of Comp Plan • Define sustainability with context of the Plan and within our Advisory Board • Incorporate Livable City Principles within the Comp Plan and Core Values. • Develop a stronger relationship with City Departments (i.e. Planning Department and the Comp Plan) 3
