They also
emphasized the need to additional single level housing in all price ranges
and types (owner occupied and rental) and their perception that there is a
strong market for this type of housing in Louisville because as current
residents age and become interested in "downsizing" there is not enough
on the market for them to stay in Louisville.
• Attended a joint meeting of county advisory boards at the Boulder Senior
Center and Grassroots Advocacy Training in Niwot where Carol, Katie and
Debbie attended sessions on Medicare, the Older Americans Act and
Social Security.
• Conducted the silent auction at the Senior Foundation Heat Relief Dinner.
Nearly $4,000 was collected from the auction to support Recreation
Center scholarships and to meet other basic needs for low- income
seniors. Thanks to merchants and community members for donating
items for the auction.
• Seniors are continuing to get involved in activities through the Senior
Center such as:
• Softball team
• Participated in art activities with the pre - school age children at the
recreation center preschool program.
• Tap dance group scheduled to perform at the May 16th Luncheon for
Older Americans.
• Seniors volunteer at Fireside Elementary. Currently, volunteers read
to students, work in the library and do other jobs according to
teacher needs.
• Singing Seniors perform at events such as the Santa's Story Time
and Dessert event held at the recreation center.
• Programs Committee offers outings for seniors such as the trip to
Colorado Springs to visit the Broadmoor and the Cheyenne
Mountain Zoo.
• Sunshine Committee continues to send out cards to seniors in need
of encouragement.
• Bloomin Seniors — promotes social and physical health. The
program has been quite a success with assistance from Volunteer
Facilitator and Master Gardener, Mary Mulcahey and Rich Cohen, a
volunteer senior in the kitchen that was instrumental in starting the
group. The program is very gratifying to seniors. The annual plant
sale is scheduled for May 19 beginning at 8:30 a.m. Come early!
Lowe's and Home Depot donate plants as well as people who
donate plant material from their own gardens. Also, Lowes donated
raised planter beds to the Bloomin Seniors.
Comments:
