Memorandum <br /> To: Historical Commission <br /> From: Bridget Bacon, Museum Coordinator <br /> Date: July 10, 2012 <br /> Re: Museum Coordinator’s Report <br />Anne Robinson’s walking tour of downtown Louisville, “Main Street Stories,” took place on <br />th <br />Saturday, June 30 with 18 participants. Anne’s next tour is scheduled for Saturday, <br />st <br />September 1. (Meet at 9:30 AM at the front of the Library; suggested donation is $5.) <br />Diane Marino’s walking tour this year will be “Legends of La Farge” and will take place on <br />thth <br />Saturday, August 4 and Saturday, October 6. (Meet at 9:30 AM at the Historical <br />Museum; suggested donation is $5.) <br />The lead article of the next Louisville Historian is about how Louisville dealt with the polio <br />epidemics of the 1940s and 1950s and has been written by Museum volunteer Kathleen <br />Jones. The next Brown Bag presentation will also have this theme and will take place from <br />12:00 to 1:00 on Thursday, September 6 at the Library. <br />A Museum program about “Homefront Heroines: The WAVES of World War II” by CU <br />professor Kathleen Ryan has been tentatively scheduled for 7 PM on Monday, November <br />5, 2012 in recognition of Veterans Day this year. <br />Marion Junior has kindly agreed to let me exhibit a selection of holiday ornaments that she <br />has made over the years to benefit the Historical Commission. These will be in the exhibit <br />cases in the Library lobby in December. <br />Historic Boulder, Inc. is again producing a Boulder County-themed calendar that the <br />Historic Commission will have an opportunity to sell at the Historical Museum later this <br />year. This calendar has the theme of schools and will include, for one of the months, a <br />historic photo of Louisville’s school that used to stand where Memory Square Park is. <br />The Library has scheduled a children’s program for kids ages 8 to 12 about Paper Craft <br />Engineering using Richard Wheeler’s paper craft model of the Louisville Grain Elevator. <br />th <br />It’s scheduled for Saturday, August 25 from 1 – 2pm, First Floor Meeting Room. <br />Among other historic building research that I have been working on, I recently wrote a <br />report for the Planning Department about the history of the buildings at 724 and 728 Main. <br />728 Main was the long-time location of the Twin Light Tavern, while 724 Main was a <br />barber shop for 68 years. <br />Museum Visitors Report (these statistics represent visits to the Museum itself, and not <br />inquiries that come in by email or phone): June visitors: 359; YTD 1170. The year to date <br />number represents an increase of 136% over the first six months of 2011. <br /> <br />
