Historic Preservation Commission
Meeting Minutes
March 19, 2012

Discussion – Comprehensive Plan Visioning
Robinson presented the visioning discussion. He passed sticky notes out to the HPC
board for a visioning exercise.
McCartney – keep in mind there will be a heritage component in the 2012
Comprehensive Plan. Knowing this might assist you in determining what your vision is.
The HPC spent a few minutes writing down there ideas on the sticky notes.
Staff accessed the “Envision Louisville” website used for the Comprehensive Plan and
explained how the website is an interactive tool for people to give their thoughts about
the Comprehensive Plan, similar to the sticky note exercise we are doing right now.
Robinson read from some of the sticky note ideas the Commission had written down.
He requested the board to further define what preservation elements the board
imagined for Louisville.
Koertje – I believe it means we would like to see more regulations written towards
preservation, such as more incentives for businesses to remain in historical buildings.
There hasn’t been much discussion between the Louisville Revitalization Commission
and the HPC.
Lewis – I believe historic preservation is a link to our heritage and what they represent.
I hope that we can have a community that integrates historic preservation into all of the
discussions we have for the future of our community.
La Grave – Preservation adds a sense of identity, which is so broad and unique.
Stewart - I like how the Comprehensive Plan is coming together. The proposed table of
contents seems to flow very well and “Heritage” is not seen as a thrown in component
but as a necessary link.
Fasick – I put historic authenticity and integrity. When I look at the buildings downtown I
don’t know their stories unless it is written out. For me it is more the architectural look
than the actual memories. With the architecture comes the integrity. I don’t want the
character to be recreated because then we become Disneyland. On the same hand I
do not believe we need to landmark every building.
Lewis – the walkability thing is also very important for our small town feel in Louisville.
So anything we can do to facilitate this is very helpful.
Koertje – Main Street should not be lined with 3 story buildings, similar to Boulder. The
replacements do matter.
La Grave – I think it is important to more adequately describe the importance of
maintaining character in specific areas of the town – what fits where.
