LouisvillePublicLibrary <br />YouthServicesDivisionPolicy <br />RevisedandreadoptedbytheLouisvillePublicLibraryBoardofTrustees, <br />March16,2005. <br />MISSIONOFTHEYOUTHSERVICESDIVISION <br />TheYouthServicesDivisionhasacommitmenttoservechildrenandyoungadults,their <br />families,teachersandcaregiversinaccordancewiththemissionoftheLouisvillePublicLibrary. <br />YouthServices contributestothegrowthanddevelopmentofchildrenofallagesby: <br />actingasanadvocateforchildrenandyoungadults; <br />treatingchildrenwithpatienceandrespectinanenvironmentthatiswelcoming; <br />providingacollectioninawidevarietyofprintandnonprintformatsthatiscurrent <br />andrepresentativeofdifferentpointsofview; <br />teachingchildrenhowtouselibraryresources,enablingthemtoworkindependently <br />whileencouragingthemtoseekhelpwhennecessary; <br />offeringactivitiesandprogramsthateducatechildren,enrichtheirlives,andencourage <br />theiruseoflibraries; <br />cooperatingwithschools,childcarecentersandcommunityorganizationsthatserve <br />childrentoprovideanetworkofservicesinthecommunity;and <br />providingphysicalfacilitiesthatareinviting,attractive,andaccommodating. <br />LIBRARYUSE <br />Theentirecollectionisopentoallpatrons.A¶«¸¹µ´¹agecannotbeusedtodenyorabridge <br />libraryuse.Librarystaffisnotresponsibleforan¯´ª¯¼¯ª»§²¹selectionofmaterials.Parentsor <br />legalguardianshavetherightandresponsibilitytorestrictaccesstolibraryresourcesfortheir <br />childrenonly.Theyshouldinformtheirchildrenoftheirexpectationsandvisitthelibrarywith <br />themiftheyareconcernedaboutchoices. <br />COMPUTERANDINTERNETUSE <br />ComputerswitheducationalprogramsandInternetaccessareavailableintheYouthServices <br />area.Informationabouttheuseofthecomputersispostedattheworkstations.Parentsmust <br />superviseyoungchildrentopreventdamagetoequipment.Supervisionorrestrictionofa <br />minor©®¯²ª¹accesstotheInternetistheresponsibilityoftheparentorlegalguardian. <br />However,iftheLibrarystaffobservesminorsaccessingobscenematerial,thestaffwill <br />intervenetostopsuchaction.Forinterestedpatrons,theLibraryprovidesresourcesthat <br />evaluateandrecommendWebsitesappropriateforyouth.Pleaseseethe AcceptableUsePolicyfor <br />ComputerResources forthecompletepolicyontheuseofelectronicinformation. <br /> <br />YouthServicesDivisionPolicyPage1of2 <br />
