SUMMER READING, JUNE 1 - JULY 31
w itth summer just around the corner, Summer Read-
ng Programs will soon begin. This year we are
offering online registration beginning Wednesday, May 25 at
wwwLouisville- Library.org. Once you have registered, you
can check -in at the appropriate department service desk and
receive the information packet for your program. As usual,
our June kick -off event will be a Family Movie Night for all
participants. Program details and schedules will be available
on the Library web site and Facebook pages, as well as calen-
dars and flyers available in the Library.
CHILDREN :: ONE WORLD, MANY STORIES
For two months each summer, the Library is practically
a circus of activity with special events, programs, and activi-
ties for kids of all ages. Always a favorite, Mr. Shine will be
back this year. We'll also have some new programs including
"Indiana Bones" and "Funny Fairy Tales."
TEENS: Yo uARE HERE
The teen program —open to students who are entering the
7th grade and above —lets teens explore different places and
cultures within themselves, the world, and time and space.
But it's not just about reading this summer —the Library
is also your entertainment center! The Loft will feature lots of
special activities for teens including an origami workshop, a
Bollywood and mehndi (henna tattooing) event, a letterbox -
ing scavenger hunt, and a rubber duck decorating contest.
We'll also have game nights, movie showings, and interactive
displays.
Adults: Novel Destinations
Summer is a time for travel, whether its a dream vacation,
being a tourist in your own city or state, or simply enjoying
some armchair travel. We'll focus on reading or listening to
novels from the various regions of the U.S. We're scheduling
special evening programs, which will focus on our own beau-
tiful and historic state — listen to a storyteller's tales about
the Northern Arapaho and early pioneers who figured in the
history of Rocky Mountain National Park, and join the Di-
rector of the Buffalo Bill Museum for his lively presentation
and historic photos of this iconic American. We'll also have a
program about storing and organizing your digital photos.
ON THE SAME PAGE
bat if everybody in your community read the same
ook at the same time? You could talk about it over
breakfast, compare notes after work, go to a program related
to the book's themes in the evening. If that's appealing, you'll
get your chance soon as Louisville, Superior, and Lafayette
join forces for the first -ever `On The Same Page' program. The
Louisville and Lafayette libraries will have lots of copies of the
book to read, whether in print, on CD, or downloadable, as
well as book club sets. There will be one title for adults and
another for kids on related topics to make this a family affair.
What's the book? We'll announce the title in early June,
so that everyone has time to read it before our programming
begins. In the meantime, we can tell you that from the begin-
ning of September through mid - October we're planning mu-
sical events, a photo display, kids' games, author appearances,
and book discussion groups, all related to events in the books.
This six- week -long celebration is being funded by Colo-
rado Humanities, the National Endowment for the Arts, the
Louisville Public Library Foundation, the Town of Superior,
and the Lafayette Friends of the Library Foundation.
