Business Retention & Development Committee <br />Meeting Minutes <br />September 4, 2012 <br />Page 2 of 4 <br /> Councilmember Jasiak announced that Jax is opening a second store in Lafayette. <br /> Shelley Angell, Chamber, announced ribbon cutting at the Singing Cook on Friday, 9/7. <br /> Jill Midgley - Street Faire Wrap-up: <br /> Thank you to sponsors and volunteers <br />o <br /> Great year, great music <br />o <br />th <br /> 4 of July week street faire on Friday, July 6, well received <br />o <br /> Addition of tables at south end was great for people to sit and people stayed around longer <br />o <br /> Attendance was excellent even though DBA didn’t do a direct mail this year <br />o <br /> DBA website hits totaled about 17,000 in June/July <br />o <br />Challenges: <br /> A problem if banners cannot be installed on light poles next year <br />o <br /> College-age volunteers left two weeks early – the street faire really depends on them. <br />o <br /> Mayor Pro Tem Dalton inquired as to how the negotiations with the Library went this year <br />concerning the extra parking spaces provided for the street faire? Jill responded that the 4 <br />spaces would frequently get moved and/or used by employees. These spaces are important to <br />the DBA and for their sponsors. <br /> Chris Pritchard summed up the great season; more people attending from outside Louisville, <br />average attendance this year was about 4,500 to 5,000 people, which is about the same as last <br />year. Chris thanked the merchants and the Louisville PD for their cooperation. The 10-Year <br />Anniversary of the street faire will be in 2013. <br /> City Manager Fleming encouraged the DBA to continue to seek out sponsorship/donation from <br />Phillips 66. <br /> Michael Menaker praised the DBA, and pointed out that there are only a small number of people <br />doing the heavy lifting, and the success of the DBA benefits the City. <br /> Jill Midgley said “couldn’t do it without Chris Pritchard.” <br /> Dana Alford asked what size of crowd can be handled for the street faire, and Chris responded <br />that he would like to shoot for 7,500 to 10,000 people next year, eg. Little Feet brought in 13,000 <br />people. <br /> Councilmember Jasiak was thrilled to see more families coming out for the event. <br /> Jill commented that the DBA used to do $10,000 in membership dues and now only does $7,000. <br />COMPREHENSIVE PLAN CHARRETTE PRESENTATION: <br />Troy Russ, Planning and Building Safety Director, presented a power point outlining the results of the <br />week-long Charrette which was conducted as part of the 2012 Comprehensive Plan Update and lead by <br />Planning staff, Director Russ, and Planners, Gavin McMillan, Sean McCartney, and Scott Robinson. A <br />Charrette is a collaborative community planning and design process that brings stakeholders together in <br />intensive work sessions to develop plans for the community. <br /> <br />
