OSAB
Staff Report
October 10, 2012
NEXT STEPS
The next phase of the Louisville Comprehensive Plan update involves data collection and
analysis intended to help staff and the community better understand how the City functions.
Staff has worked with a GIS consultant to create maps which help analyze land use patterns and
identify areas of stability and areas of change in the City. Staff has also worked with the aid of a
consultant to complete a demographic, economic, and fiscal analysis of the City as well as the
regional transportation modeling.
This data, along with staff analysis of land use patterns, transportation systems, and existing
infrastructure was the foundation for a weeklong community design charrette held during the
th
week of August 27. A charrette is a collaborative community planning and design process that
brings stakeholders together in intensive work sessions to develop plans for their community.
The charrette resulted in the creation of three land use framework options for the City. Staff will
give an overview of the three community framework options that came out of the design charrette
and lead a discussion of the comprehensive plan chapters which are most appropriate for each
group. The draft chapters for the comp plan are as follows;
Community Vision
Vision Statement and Guiding Community Values
Community form, character, and urban design
Land use
Character Zones
Neighborhoods and Housing
Community Heritage
Parks, Recreation, Trails and Open Space
Transportation, Mobility, and Accessibility
Streets
Public Transit
Accessibility
Parking Management
Public Infrastructure
Water & Sewer
Storm Water
Energy
The Economy and Fiscal Health
Economic Development
Fiscal Future
Community Services
Police
Library
Education
3
